If the only tool you have is a hammer, the saying goes, then every solution will look like a nail. Thus, in Bush's primitive brain, the best way to have stopped the horror at the camps would have been to bomb the hell out of them.
Mainly, though, it's hard to get past the cognitive dissonance of reading an honest, human utterance from Bush's mouth that was not crafted by the White House political shop and focus-grouped in Paramus to ensure ambiguity.
It also reminds us of the unique kid-glove treatment George W. Bush receives from the media. It is impossible to imagine any other politician whose grandfather had profited from Nazi slave labor who could tour a Holocaust memorial with the media in tow and not be hounded for a comment on his grandfather's role in the horror.
I'd forgotten about the whole Prescott Bush-Nazi association. Strange.
It really is telling that Bush's kneejerk response to his own tears is violence. Am I missing something? Isn't the obvious response to his question of "Why didn't we bomb the concentration camps?":
"um, Sir, the victims were in the camps."
I can appreciate that in a time of world war, one might legitimately consider a number of violent solutions to problems. But, man, there is never any nuance to this guy's thoughts.
:-) Yea, that would have been a little too obvious...
Isn't his solution to everything basically, "Well, let's bomb 'em?"
What's the saying, when the only tool you have is a hammer?
January 2009 could not come soon enough.
Bush's stupidity only exceeded by his ignorance perhaps?
POLICE STATE
We live in a police state, ruled by the bastards we hate; where bogusness and corruption too often determine a man's fate.
Hell, we're 19 years past 1984; and we're certainly beginning to see what this new generation of Bush league big brothers for us cats got in store.
Groovy man
Speaking of Orwell and Bush. A friend recently came across a publication which went over the old anthrax attacks. The publication said one of the first victims was a tabloid operator who had written negative articles about Osama bin Laden.
They're already re-writing history. The tabloid guy was one who was printing photos of Jenna Bush stumbling around drunk and making an ass of herself. Conveniently for the Bush family, he stopped printing such pics after his untimely death.
Groovy!
